We stock and install Elite-compatible hinge and roller replacements across Houston, with most jobs completed on the first visit. Installed pricing typically runs $265 – $520 per gate depending on the hinge style, roller weight rating, and how much the gate has sagged out of square. You’ll usually notice it first as a grinding sound when the gate opens or a corner dragging on the concrete.
Most Houston owners discover a failing hinge or roller by ear before they ever see it. The gate starts to fight the motor on the way open, the motion gets jerky, or a wheel leaves a flat spot from dragging. By the time you can see the sag with your eyes, the roller has usually been dead for months and the hinge is carrying weight it was never meant to hold. Elite gates are built heavy, and when a roller seizes, the hinge takes the punishment.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite slide gates and swing gates use a fairly consistent hinge and roller design across their SL and CS series slide operators, and their residential swing models like the Mirage and Viper lines. The compatibility catch most people miss is the wheel diameter. Older Elite CS slide gate frames take a 4-inch roller wheel, while newer SL-series frames are drilled for 6-inch wheels. Order the wrong diameter and the gate rides too low or too high, throwing the chain tension off and making the motor work against itself.
Identifying what you have takes about two minutes. Look for the metal tag on the gate frame near the drive chain sprocket – it will carry the series lettering (SL or CS for slides, MS for Mirage swing arms). If the tag is gone, measure the wheel itself. A 4-inch roller has a visible axle cap in the center; a 6-inch generally has a grease fitting behind the wheel face. We stock genuine Elite rollers and hinges on our trucks for the most common Houston configurations, along with heavy-duty aftermarket equivalents rated to match or exceed the original load spec. For genuine Elite parts with the stamped part number, we order direct and typically have them in hand within two business days.

Signs Your Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- Grinding or squealing when the gate moves. A seized roller bearing stops spinning and drags the wheel sideways across the track. The noise is metal on metal, not the normal hum of the operator.
- A corner of the gate drags on the driveway. When a roller collapses, the gate loses support at that end and dips. You’ll see fresh scrape marks on the concrete in an arc that follows the gate’s travel.
- The gate shudders or stutters partway through its travel. A failing hinge lets the gate frame flex under load, which bounces the chain tension and makes the operator stutter. The problem is mechanical, not the board.
- The gate sits visibly out of level when closed. With both rollers gone and the hinges worn, the whole leaf settles. Run a level across the top rail – if the bubble is buried at one end, the wear is already advanced.
- The chain or drive belt shows uneven wear on one side. When the gate leans, the chain pulls harder on one roller than the other. You’ll see the outside edge of the chain links polished while the inside stays dark.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Houston, a single Elite hinge replacement runs $120 – $195 installed, and a roller replacement runs $145 – $325 depending on the wheel diameter and whether the bearing housing is welded or bolted. A full set – two hinges, two rollers, and a track adjustment – typically lands between $480 and $720. The biggest price driver is how far the gate has sagged. If the frame has twisted from running on a dead roller for months, we have to pull the leaf back into square before we mount new hardware, and that adds labor.
Every quote is written before we touch a tool, with the parts cost, labor, and any track work itemized separately. You’ll know the number before we start and it does not change at the door. All hinge and roller work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If a replacement part fails or the gate drops out of alignment inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect your own Elite rollers and hinges. Shut the gate off at the operator switch, lay eyes on each wheel for flat spots or wobble, and grab the gate leaf and try to rock it. Loose movement at the hinge posts means worn bushings. That diagnosis is free when you do it yourself.
Swapping the parts is a different job. Elite slide gates weigh anywhere from 600 to 1,400 pounds, and when the hinge comes off, the whole leaf drops. If it drops on you or pinches a hand between the frame and the post, the gate wins. We use a jack and support stands on every replacement, and we re-tension the chain to spec when the new rollers change the ride height. If you’ve already got the parts, we’ll install them. If you want us to supply everything matched to your model, we do that too. Call (361) 320-7104 and we’ll set a time.
FAQs
In Houston’s heat and humidity, we see genuine Elite rollers last 7 to 10 years and aftermarket heavy-duty equivalents about the same or a year or two longer, depending on gate weight and daily cycles. Coastal air near Galveston Bay shortens bearing life noticeably from salt exposure. Hinges typically last 10 to 15 years on a properly balanced gate. If your gate went out of alignment and was never corrected, cut those numbers in half. Call (361) 320-7104 and we’ll tell you what you’ve got left.
Most rollers cannot be rebuilt because the bearing is sealed inside the wheel. A seized bearing means a new wheel assembly. Hinges can sometimes be tightened and re-shimmed if caught early, before the bushing wallows out the mounting hole. We’ll tell you straight which one you need. Estimates are free at (361) 320-7104.
A single roller or hinge swap takes about 45 to 90 minutes on site. A full set of two hinges and two rollers with track adjustment runs two to three hours, including cycling the gate and checking chain tension when we’re done. You’ll know the full price before we start.
We stock common Elite wheel diameters and hinge styles on our trucks, so most replacements happen same trip. If your model needs a less common size, we order it and schedule the install once it lands, usually within two business days. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems for full gate service calls.
