Get your free estimateMighty Mule Welding & Fabrication: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible welded brackets, gate frames, hinge plates, and custom fabrication for most FM and MM series operators, with typical installed work in Houston running $180 to $650 depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked bracket or fabricating a new gate frame section. Same-day service is available when the part is on the truck, and we’ll tell you before we dispatch whether it is. Most Houston owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts dragging on one corner, a weld cracks at the hinge, or an operator bracket shears off after months of the gate getting harder to push through its travel.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
We see this come up across most of the Mighty Mule line: FM200, FM350, FM500, MM260, MM360, MM371, MM571, MM572, and the older RB741 and RB790 series. The welded parts that fail on these systems are usually the operator mounting bracket, the gate leaf frame at the hinge line, or the fork attach points where the articulating arm connects to the gate. Identification matters more than a model number here. If you can find a label on the control board or the underside of the operator housing, that gets us the series. If the label is gone, which happens often after Houston summers bake the adhesive off, we take measurements of the bracket hole spacing and the arm geometry to match the right fabrication.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Mighty Mule specifically, our honest position is that OEM mounting brackets are fine when the failure was installer error, but when a bracket sheared because the gate was welded out of square from day one, no OEM replacement fixes the root cause. That is where fabrication earns its money. We build brackets from heavier stock than the factory hardware when the application calls for it, and we build hinge plates that correct the misalignment that killed the original part.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. The hinge welds or the hinge plates are stretching or cracking, which lets the whole leaf drop. The operator works harder to compensate, and the bracket failure usually follows within months.
- A visible crack at the operator bracket or fork mount. This is metal fatigue. Mighty Mule operators cycle thousands of times a year, and a cracked bracket is the part telling you it has been flexing every single cycle.
- The gate makes a popping sound when it reverses direction. That pop is often the welded bracket shifting slightly at a propagating crack. Each pop widens the crack a fraction more.
- The operator pushes the gate but the gate doesn’t respond smoothly. If the arm attachment point is loose or cracked, the operator travel does not translate cleanly into gate movement. The motor runs, the gate hesitates.
- Rust staining around hinge welds after rain. In Houston, welded steel at the hinge line takes on water. Once rust bleeds through a crack, the structural loss accelerates fast.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Houston, expect to pay $180 to $320 to replace a cracked Mighty Mule operator bracket with a factory-equivalent part, including the service call and labor. Custom fabrication runs higher: $350 to $650 for a fabricated hinge plate, gate frame repair, or a heavier-duty bracket built on site when the OEM design is the problem. The spread comes down to steel cost, welding time, and whether we are working from a clean original or repairing someone else’s prior weld. Every job gets a written price before we strike an arc, and the price does not move at the door. The repair is covered by our written guarantee for a full year, and if the weld or the bracket fails inside that window, the second visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
What an owner can safely check: visually inspect the bracket and hinge plates for cracks, measure the gap under the gate at the latch side, and watch the arm attachment point while the gate cycles. Taking pictures of what you find helps us quote faster. What we recommend against doing yourself: welding on brackets or hinges while they are still attached to the gate. The heat can damage the operator arm bushing, and the splatter can land on the control board if the arm is near it. More importantly, anything welded to the gate while it is under tension or load will not hold. The gate has to be properly supported and squared before a repair weld goes in. We do that with the gate blocked and the operator disengaged. If you are in Houston and want it done once, call (361) 320-7104 and we will get a technician to you with the right stock on the truck.
If I can’t tell you exactly what’s wrong before I order a part, I shouldn’t be charging you for the part.
FAQs
A properly installed bracket on a properly aligned gate typically lasts 8 to 12 years in Houston’s climate, with the hinge-line welds being the first thing to fail if water gets behind the paint. Coastal-adjacent humidity and heavy rain cycles shorten that life compared to drier regions. If the gate is out of square, expect bracket failure in 2 to 4 years regardless of what part is installed. Call (361) 320-7104 and we’ll inspect the whole assembly, not just the part.
Sometimes, when the crack is in a low-stress area of a steel bracket and the underlying alignment is sound. But on a Mighty Mule operator bracket that has been flexing, a repair weld is usually a temporary fix because the metal around the crack is already fatigued. We will tell you which situation you have after looking at it, before any money is spent.
Most bracket replacements take 45 to 90 minutes once the technician is on site, including disconnecting the operator arm, removing the failed part, mounting the replacement, and cycling the gate to confirm alignment. Custom fabrication adds welding and cooling time: usually 2 to 4 hours total depending on the scope.
Yes. We keep common Mighty Mule mounting brackets, hinge hardware, and steel stock for fabrication on the trucks that service Houston, along with parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems. If your specific bracket is not on board, we tell you before we dispatch and give you a clear arrival window for the follow-up.
