We repair and replace failing Elite keypad and intercom systems throughout Houston, typically for $225 to $520 installed, with the replacement board or keypad unit in hand before we arrive. Most calls start the same way: the keypad stopped registering one or two digits, the intercom works only during cooler morning hours, or the gate simply quit responding to the call button. In Houston’s heat and humidity, the failure point is almost always the same: degraded keypad membrane contacts and corrosion across the intercom circuit board. The good news is you rarely need a full system replacement. We match the exact Elite-series component and install it the same visit.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite has used several keypad and intercom configurations across their gate operator lines, and the part number matters more than the model year. The most common units we service in Houston are the Elite KPR-30 and KPR-100 standalone keypads and the Elite IE-1 and IE-2 intercom expansion modules paired with SlideDriver and ElitePro operators. The compatibility gotcha: a KPR-30 cannot be swapped onto a system originally wired for a KPR-100 without re-terminating the control board, because the KPR-30 draws power and signal across a single four-wire run while the KPR-100 splits power from data. If the board has a printed label visible in the upper right, you can read it in place; if the label is gone, we identify the unit by wire count and connector shape before ordering anything. Carver Gate Repair Houston is an independent service provider, not an Elite factory affiliate, and we install both OEM Elite components and vetted aftermarket equivalents when they are a better value. Our position on aftermarket: for digital keypads, OEM is worth the cost; for intercom power supplies, a quality aftermarket unit with matching voltage and amp rating is often the smarter buy.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Certain digits read incorrectly or not at all. Houston’s humidity creeps through the membrane seal over time. Once moisture reaches the contact layer, specific keys go intermittent. The fix is a new keypad, not a cleaning.
- Gate opens fine from the remote but not from the keypad. That tells us the keypad circuit is bringing down the signal line. The controller still sees the radio receiver, but the hardwired path is compromised.
- Intercom audio is distorted or drops out during the day. Heat expansion lifts the solder joints on the audio board, especially on units mounted in direct sun on east-facing Houston driveways. It will work at dawn and fail by noon.
- Call button rings at the house but nobody hears you at the gate. That is a dead microphone element, and on Elite intercoms it is not serviceable separately. The whole audio module gets replaced.
- Exterior keypad shows a dim or flickering key light at night. Not cosmetic. It means the voltage regulation on the small power board is buckling and the gate will soon stop reading inputs altogether.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Elite keypad replacement in Houston runs $225 to $395 installed. A full intercom module replacement lands between $340 and $520. The spread comes down to which Elite series is on the post, whether we are reusing the existing wiring and backplate, and whether the lockout relay needs replacing at the same time. You get the written price before we start, and that number does not move. No surprises after the work is open. The warranty runs a full year through our 365-Day Done Right Promise; if the replacement part fails inside that window, the second visit is free, no charge, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
It is low-voltage work, so there is no safety hazard on the electrical side. The danger for a homeowner is a botched diagnostic that burns hours and still leaves the gate locking people out. If you want to check something yourself first, check the obvious: a tripped GFCI at the operator outlet, a corroded wire nut inside an old junction box, or a keypad literally cracked and holding water. Nothing wrong with any of those checks. The point where DIY goes sideways is when a running problem like marginal voltage or creeping corrosion is halfway there and you start swapping boards by guesswork. If I can’t tell you exactly what’s wrong before I order a part, I shouldn’t be charging you for the part, and you shouldn’t be spending your Saturday afternoon doing something we can have handled in one trip. Call (361) 320-7104 if you want a set of trained eyes on it rather than a parts cannon.
FAQs
A properly installed Elite keypad lasts 5 to 8 years in Houston before moisture or UV degradation takes it down. Intercom boards in unshaded locations average closer to 4 to 6 years. Direct southern exposure knocks roughly two years off both. If your keypad is past that mark and giving inconsistent reads, replacement is the honest fix. Call (361) 320-7104 and we will match the right part to your operator the first visit.
Occasionally, yes. Loose terminal connections and corroded wire splices are repairable on the spot. But the membrane contact layer inside a sealed keypad and the audio board inside an intercom module are not economically serviceable. Replacing the component is cheaper than paying labor to open, diagnose, and reseal a part that will fail again inside two years. Call us at (361) 320-7104 and we will tell you which camp your unit is in.
Most Elite keypad or intercom replacements take under 90 minutes from start to test. If the existing wire run is in good shape, we reuse it; if it is brittle or undersized, we run new low-voltage line that same visit. You are never waiting on a second trip for a parts order on common Elite components we already stock.
Yes. We carry Elite KPR-series keypads, intercom audio modules, power supplies, and the common wiring pigtails on our Houston trucks. Alongside Elite, we stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If your operator is outside those lines, we order by exact part number and come back, but that is rare. Call (361) 320-7104, tell us your model or send a photo of the label, and we will confirm before we head your way.
